How to Participate in the AGM Business Meeting

The 2026 AGM Business Meeting is open to all members. To participate, please contact Ed Nisbet at egnisbet@ibydeit.org to obtain the Zoom meeting information.

The 2026 AGM Business Meeting will be held by Zoom on Sunday, November 8, at 5:00 PM Eastern time. AGM's are an annual event in order to elect new officers and to conduct important Society Business. This year's agenda includes:

A. Vice President Election for the 2026-2029 term. The Vice President's position became available when Vice President Bill Nisbet accepted the President's position. The Vice President duties include:
  • Performing the duties of the President in his absence,
  • Keeping records of the property of the Society,
  • Administering the Society’s John A. Nesbitt Scottish Arts Scholarship program,
  • Performing other duties as may be assigned by the President or Board.
B. Interim Treasurer Election to finish the retired Treasurer's remaining term which ends in 2028. The Treasurer's responsibilities include:
  • Using financial software and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP),
  • Maintaining records of the financial transactions of the organization,
  • Preparing an annual budget,
  • Preparing quarterly financial report containing assets and liabilities, revenue and disbursements,
  • Preparing an annual report the financial condition of the Society.

Candidates are needed for both important positions. Members in good standing may nominate themselves or another member for an office as long as the nominee is current on Society dues and consents a willingness to serve. To nominate a Candidate, please use our Candidate Nomination Form. If interested in receiving more information about either the Vice President or Treasurer position, please forward questions and comments to Secretary Ed Nisbet, at egnisbet@ibydeit.org.

C. Vote on the Board of Directors' Recommended Bylaws Amendments. The changes include:
  1. Removing the detailed officer job descriptions from the Bylaws and post them on the website. This will reduce the frequency of changes to the Bylaws and make the duties of our officers more accessible.
  2. Adding a new section to the bylaws to capture Organizational Matters. This new section formally recognizes:
    • Lord Lyon King of Arms officially recognized Clan Nisbet
    • Society domestic non-profit corporation status
    • Society Federal Tax Exemption 501(c) (3) status
  3. Approving the proposed ByLaws will also act to amend our Constitution by adding Georgia as the state in which the Society is incorporated as a non-profit organization.
