By Irene Petree, Treasurer

Tuesday, January 19, 2021

As we all know, 2020 was a bust for our beloved Highland Games, but we believe 2021 is going to be incredible, and are now planning our schedule for next year if and when it's safe to return to these activities.

The N/N's will start off the season at the Greenville, SC games called Gallabrae. They are held on Memorial Day weekend and will begin on Friday, May 28th with the Great Scot Parade late afternoon in downtown Greenville. The Games commence on Saturday the 29th at the beautiful Furman University campus just north of the city. The clan tents surround the athletic field where you can watch the many events all day, including the Parade of Tartans early Saturday morning. Come march with us or watch from our tent! After the parade of tartans come military salutes and the paratroopers who land in the center of the field, weather permitting. For more, go to their website at https://gallabrae.com.

Next on our schedule will be the Stone Mountain Highland Games the 3rd weekend of October. These are two-day games which probably will be on Saturday the 16th and Sunday the 17th. Check their website later for a firm date at www.smhg.org. They are an incredible blend of music, athletic events, dancers, vendors, and best of all, over 100 clans in attendance! These games are held inside the beautifully wooded area of Stone Mountain Park just outside Atlanta. The Parade of Tartans is held mid-afternoon on Sunday, and the field is packed with clans and multiple Pipe and Drum bands.

The last one on our schedule is Charleston, SC. These are one day games and are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6th; check out the details on their website is at https://www.charlestonscottishgames.com/schedule-of-events/. We were excited to see how many Pipe and Drum bands were at this event; many we recognize from the Stone Mtn. Games! 2021 will be their 50th annual games and they are the second oldest games of its kind in the southeast. They are held on the beautiful Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, SC.
